New Jersey Democratic Senator Bob Menendez epitomizes the difference between Republicans and Democrats. Senator Menendez’s corruption – and this ain’t his first time at that rodeo – gave the news media all the proof it needed that, yes-indeedy, “both sides do it”. But aside from the corrupt act itself, there’s nothing else here that “both sides do”. For example, both sides did not and do not plot to overthrow American democracy. Both sides don’t actively and routinely support Russia over America. Only one side insists that election 2020 was stolen from Trump – regardless of the claim’s falsity.
There’s no Democratic analog to Donald Trump. None to Mitch McConnell or Mitch’s scheme (at the behest of the RW money machine) to hijack the judiciary up to and especially the SCOTUS. What Democrats spent July 4, 2018 in Moscow to balance out the eight Republicans who, in fact, did spend that Independence Day plotting with Vladimir Putin against America?
Bob Menendez: Exception To The Rule
Bob Menendez is something of an exception in the current Democratic Party.
The Democrats, unlike the Republicans, don’t tolerate corruption in their midst. Now, let’s understand: Democratic politicians tolerate way more corruption than they should. Democracy is messy as hell. As Winston Churchill put it, democracy is the worst form of government – except for all the others.
Given the alternatives, democracy will have to do. We’ll just have to get better at it.
America’s two main political parties couldn’t be more different. Look at their superstars.
Leadership V Bullshit
The Democrats can point to VP Harris, Hakeem Jeffries, Elizabeth Warren, AOC, Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell among others as people who can articulate the positive changes Democrats want to make to America and for Americans. The GOP can point to Jim Jordan, Matt Gaetz and Marjory Taylor Greene. All three are perfectly happy to spew nonsense and bullshit as America collapses around them. That’s all they can articulate.
Or effectuate! Why does Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville maintain his choke hold on the military? Or, why did Lindsey Graham go from being the guy who told Republicans Trump would destroy their party to being the guy bent on keeping Trump’s nut sack warm by using his mouth parts? Why do so many Republicans want to shut down the government?
America’s collapse is the point of the exercise. Broken people can only think broken thoughts and spew broken ideas. And no one and nothing is more broken than the Grand Ol’ Party. The Party of Lincoln has remade itself as the Party of The Enslavers.
Ron DeSantis’ Florida Department of Education now mandates teaching young Floridians that slavery imparted marketable skills to slaves. So, it wasn’t all bad apparently…
Corruption On The Thinking Level
That’s corruption on the thinking level! But then, what’s The Big Lie if not the corruption of thinking itself?
From the moment Trump swore his oath of office, he began violating it. Because corruption.
if Bob Menendez were a Republican, no one would be nagging him now to resign. No one Republican anyway. Democrats, OTOH, began lining up as soon as they’d read the charges against Menendez and saw the very real trouble he’d brought on himself. Democrats believe Menendez deserves his day in court. But, he doesn’t deserve to stay a US Senator.
Because Menendez is a Democrat, he will face increasing pressure to resign because of his corruption. That doesn’t pose much of a threat to the Democrats. If Menendez resigned today, New Jersey’s Democratic governor would replace him – with a Democrat.
And that Democrat would have the advantage of incumbency in the coming election. Same as Menendez.
Democrats don’t want candidates with baggage while Republicans are all about the baggage. The more corrupt that baggage is, the better Republicans like it.
