Fact: insurrections don’t pay for themselves. And, as a rule, insurrectionists themselves don’t have deep pockets. That was especially true of our insurrection. 99% of the angry white people over-running Congress on January 6 were middle class if that. In America, “middle class” means “just this side of broke”. Someone higher up the socioeconomic food chain had to pony up proceeds in order for those lower down to insurrect. Those paying for insurrection are as guilty as those walking point. Same goes for everyone in between. A gold seam connects them all.

In his spy fiction – all based on his real life time as an actual spy – the late author John Le Carre used the term “gold seam” to describe the money flow from head spy master all the way down to workaday spy. Just as Le Carre’s “Moscow Central” ran a gold seam From Russia to its intel assets all over the place, various big name Republican donors have run gold seams to political candidates connected to the insurrection.

Republican Bucks And Insurrection

There is already significant public-facing evidence that the Republican donor class helped pay for the insurrection. And they did it knowingly.

But then, the Republican donor class has “invested itself” in overthrowing our democracy for a while now. Take the Kochs. Back when there were two of them, Charles and David (the dead one) put plenty of money into the Libertarian-loving, democracy hating Heritage Foundation and the equally repellant Cato Institute. They’ve created tiers and levels to the donations to obscure their source. It’s exactly the way mobsters do it – and for the very same reason.

The Kochs don’t want most Americans to know what they’re up to. Because most Americans – the Kochs know – would object. The Kochs – and the Mercers and every other big Republican donor – believe their money should speak louder than any American’s vote. That’s why they spend so much of it to bend (their goal is to break) our democracy.

A Diversifying America

As the Reagan “revolution” waned and power slipped from their fingers, the right wing money machine saw electoral oblivion coming at them. America was diversifying far faster than anticipated. White births weren’t keeping up (motivating some of the money behind the “pro-life” push – make more white babies).

With the presidency out of reach to them (except via manipulating the Electoral College) and the House too mercurial, the right wing money bet it all on the Senate and the judiciary. They put their gold seam into hyper drive.

Systemic Problems

The right wing money assumes they’ll always have the Senate in their pocket (if not via the outright majority then via the filibuster). The Senate, like the Electoral College, is weighted toward the white power and the former Confederacy (and all the places Confederates fled to after the Civil War – the American West). Example: why are there two Dakotas? Were there too many Dakotans for one Dakota?

North Dakota had 774,948 people in it in 2021. For comparison’s sake, Washington, DC had 712,816 as of 2020. North Dakota has two senators. DC has zero. Also for comparison’s sake, California had 39.24 million people as of 2020. We also have but two Senators. See how the (almost entirely) white folks in North Dakota get more representation than anyone in California – and especially in DC? That’s not by accident.

Want to guess which party would sacrifice its own children to keep DC, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands from ever getting the Senate representation to which they’re entitled? It’s not hard to grasp why. If the GOP loses the Senate for good – which could happen if they lose the filibuster – then two out of three branches of government would forever be out of reach.

Seize The Judiciary!

That’s why the right wing money used their gold seam – and their power in the Senate (in the person of treason turtle Mitch McConnell) – to do everything in his power (and that their money could buy) to seize the judicial branch. McConnell denied Obama countless judicial appointments including Neil Gorsuch’s SCOTUS seat. That was the minority denying the majority’s will!

Same goes for the Amy Coney Barrett nomination which happened after Trump had already lost the White House.

That, too, was part of the Republican Party’s larger insurrection. Remember, the violence on January 6 wasn’t even the tip of the spear. It was part of a much larger assault weapon that the Republican Party was firing at the rest of America like a school shooter. The fake electors was part of it, too. Same goes for every last one of the GOP’s attempts to resist the peaceful transfer of power.

Jack Smith’s Fistful Of Thread

The thread pulling has begun. Jack Smith has a fistful of thread ends in his hand and every tug produces more Republican criminality. The moment his indictments start dropping, this whole game – the whole conversation we’re having about it – will change drastically. Those charges will explode inside the GOP with shocking lethality.

There’s not enough money to pay for all the legal bills coming. And the cost per billable hour to defend yourself against federal charges at this level? Brutal. The donor dollars will only go so far before drying up completely. Same goes for GoFundMe dosh. There’s only so much. Funny thing? The very same applies to the deals the guilty could cut to spare themselves some prison time.

Rats And Ratting

The ratting has already begun – take that to the bank – and that’s even before the bombs have started dropping. Once they do? Once Fani Willis begins indicting people in Georgia (starting some time in July), countless co-conspirators will turn on each other. It will look like someone knocked over a room filled with giant, red MAGA dominoes.

The confessions, once begun, won’t stop. The guilty will have to reach farther and father back for stuff with which to negotiate. Before too long, one of the Republican co-conspirators will over up what they know about Russia.

And then the real party will begun. But for Russia, Trump would never have been POTUS. The GOP knew Russia owned Trump before they even nominated Trump. They’ve always feared that fact would boomerang back at them – and take off all their heads.

Or put them all in prison.
